Dr James Tataw Ashu

Dr James Tataw Ashu is a Swiss board-certified specialist in internal medicine and nephrology with approximately 20 years of clinical, academic and leadership experience across Switzerland and Cameroon.

He serves as Head of Internal Medicine and Nephrology at Hôpital de Moutier and as a consultant physician in nephrology at Geneva University Hospitals. He is also involved in postgraduate medical education and the training of future physicians.

Dr Tataw holds specialist FMH qualifications in General Internal Medicine and Nephrology. His expertise includes acute and chronic kidney disease, hypertension, dialysis, kidney biopsy, renal ultrasonography and the coordinated care of dialysis and kidney-transplant patients.

His approach to medicine is defined by discretion, compassion and respect. He treats doctor–patient confidentiality as a fundamental responsibility and builds close, trusted relationships with patients and, when authorised, their families.

Internationally, Dr Tataw helped co-found a pioneering living-donor kidney-transplantation collaboration involving Geneva University Hospitals, Yaoundé General Hospital and the University Hospital Centre of Yaoundé. He has also contributed to kidney-disease prevention research, dialysis-care improvements and specialist medical training in Cameroon.

Dr Tataw is an accomplished researcher whose publications address access to dialysis in sub-Saharan Africa, kidney transplantation, continuous renal-replacement therapy, cardiac complications in haemodialysis and acute kidney injury.
